Senate Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence has inaugurated Grand Bassa County’s first state-of-the-art public science laboratory in Buchanan, funded through her legislative project fund.
The dedication ceremony, held at the Unification Pavilion at the Fairground in Buchanan, was attended by dignitaries, including members of the Bassa Legislative Caucus, county administrators, Ministry of Education representatives, ArcelorMittal Liberia officials, civil society leaders, traditional chiefs and elders, women’s groups, teachers, school administrators, students, and residents.
Senator Karnga-Lawrence announced that the facility, constructed by Amos and Son Construction Company for US$67,000, was completed in under five months following the groundbreaking in March 2025.
She emphasized her commitment to advancing Grand Bassa’s education sector, particularly in science and technology, and highlighted other ongoing county initiatives.
The laboratory aims to support the government’s education agenda by promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, preparing students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) through hands-on learning and research.
Senator Findley, Chairman of the Grand Bassa Legislative Caucus, praised Karnga-Lawrence for her dedication to education and the lab’s transformative potential for students.
County officials, student leaders, and other attendees expressed gratitude to the senator and pledged to maintain the facility.
James Wremongar Duen, County Administrative Officer, speaking on behalf of Superintendent Karyou Johnson, commended the senator for her focus on youth empowerment and academic development, pledging the county administration’s full support for this and future initiatives.
The ceremony concluded with a ribbon-cutting and a tour of the laboratory, which will serve multiple public schools in Buchanan and surrounding areas.
