Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has rally Liberians in the Diaspora to take advantage of ongoing initiatives being provided by the Government in order to improve the Country.
” We have lots of initiatives, more tangible ones to attract Liberians back home”, he re-emphasized.
As part of efforts to improve investment back home, Minister Ngafuan calls on Diaspora Liberians to take advantage of the US Development financing corporation, the DFC in order to invest in Liberia especially at low rates level and threshold respectively.
The government he stated is deliberate and Intentional to increase American Business footprint in Liberia.
Speaking further he stressed that the government is working with the World Bank through the international financing corporation.
” The World Bank, he indicated have decided to put equalty in Business”, he disclosed.
Minister Ngafuan told the gathering at the Liberia Diaspora conference in Washington that the DFC has some finances to do agro business and other opportunities respectively.
” You may not be able to get all the funds but funds are available to leverage”, he reassured them.
Through the CBL, Minister Ngafuan said it is working with what he calls, the payment switch.
Among other things, he pointed out that the initiative enables one to sit anywhere to do transactions.
Minister Ngafuan acknowledged that there are challenges but the government is working gradually to help resolve the problems.
Speaking more about the payment switch, Minister Ngafuan said unlike before, the port now has a night service up to 10pm even though not 24 hours but it is a good start as the payment period over time will swing, he noted.
” The payment switch is on, we are taking a baby step and in October, we will see the two GSM providers, Orange Liberia and Lonestar Cell MTN inter- corporate especially in the transfer of mobile and orange money respectively “, he added.
He assured the gathering that the government through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning is digitizing the economy and is working very hard to help improve the Country’s economy.
