In a move to speak to all sectors of the Country, Liberia’s 178th National Orator Rev. Emmett Dunn challenged the churches in Liberia to now do more in helping to break the circle of poverty which bulk of their members are battling on a daily basis.
The man of God speaking boldly to his colleagues warned them to stop preaching prosperity messages and look at the reality on the ground and do something to empower its members whose poor conditions are worsening daily.
Liberia, he stated is a nation rich in potential and the church is one of the most powerful and trusted institutions in this countryas such needs to take more practical approach to help the process.
He reminded the churches on the impact they would make if they were to leverage that responsibility especially Imagining the communities in which they reside.
“All of us want to go to heaven, All of us want to wear a Syrian Crown, All of us want to walk on street pave with gold, but my damn what’s happening down here, transform the lives of the people”, he re-emphasized.
He encouraged the churches to now see the need to organize meaningful initiatives such as holding capacity development classes and educative training programs for their members aimed at empowering them rather than too much spiritual activities.
” Stop having prayer meetings five nights a week and use some of those nights? Don’t you empower your people? What if you taught them some national literacy on how to open a bank account and stop telling them to soul seed so that they can drive a better car”,he further blasted.
As the audience goes wow, in applauds to his oration, Rev. Dunn told the President that he was almsot tempted to ask the National Legislature to use their powers to to arrest clergy from manipulating the people, stating that the people deserve better.
He pointed out that it is time for a deeper awakening, A Revival, not just a prayer and worship, but a purpose and responsibility.
Speaking further , he disclosed that Poverty has been spiritualized, Normalize, and even romanticize within the church.
” But let it be clear, There is no honor in poverty, And there is nothing righteous about economic suffering when Solutions are within your reach”, he reminded the Christian community.
According to him, The gospel is not only about salvation, It is all set of a transformation of lives and Community, For scripture, says faith Without work, is dead””, he noted.
“Is that Yet too often Our pulpits Echo with calls to prayer without equal calls to action, We cannot keep telling people too fast and pray and wait for the breakthrough and the anointing while doing nothing practical to change their situation”, he re-emphasized.
At the same time, he warned pastors to stop expecting God to walk on Waters because he did it once, and he is not going to do it again adding that God told him to tell his people to get to work.
