The Liberian Senate Statutory Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Claims and Petitions, has scheduled the Chief Justice-Designate, Justice Yamie Gbeisay, to appear before the Committee for commencement of his confirmation proceedings on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 1:00pm in the Senateโs Chambers.
The Committeeโs action was triggered by a communication sent to the Senate by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, nominating Justice Gbeisay as Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia following the retirement of Her Honor Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, who has met the required constitutional age limit of seventy years to serve as Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia.
Justice Gbeisay, who is currently serving as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, will appear before the Senate for Senators to test his suitability for the job, as well as to share his vision for the position of Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia.
Meanwhile, Senateโs Committee Chairman on Judiciary, Sen. Cllr. Augustine S. Chea, has encouraged the public to follow the proceedings, as the Senate has always endeavored to remain transparent, apolitical and independent in the discharge of its oversight responsibility, as well as other legislative responsibilities.
