President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called on all Liberians to embrace the profound significance of Liberia’s election to the United Nations Security Council, describing it as both a great honor and a weighty responsibility.
He spoke at a special cabinet meeting convened to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts behind the successful campaign for the Non-Permanent Seat and to map out Liberia’s strategic direction for its tenure on the Council.
President Boakai expressed deep appreciation to the Dean of the Cabinet and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, members of the Cabinet, and all individuals and institutions whose contributions made this historic achievement possible.
President Boakai reminded Liberians that the collective success must translate into visibility, success and benefit for all.
“Our ARREST Agenda, the African Agenda and the global agenda must be pursued,” he intoned, urging that “we put forth our best to ensure an enduring legacy for our term to end with pride and honor.”
Among other things, Tuesday’s Cabinet Meeting received an update from the Foreign Minister, Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, on Liberia’s roles and responsibilities as a non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council.
Minister Nyanti outlined the UNSC mandate and assessed Liberia’s preparedness, covering technical capacity requirements such as staffing, financial support and budgetary provision, as well as crafting principled and strategic foreign policy directions.
The Cabinet Meeting marked the beginning of a series of high-level engagements aimed at ensuring that Liberia’s leadership on the Security Council reflects the country’s commitment to peace, stability, and global cooperation.
