Morocco has celebrated the 27th anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the throne with a strong message of economic resilience, political stability and expanding international partnerships, as the Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development, regional cooperation and deeper bilateral relations with Liberia.
Speaking during the official Throne Day celebration at Farmington Hotel in lower Margibi County, , Lahoucine Rahmouni, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco to Liberia, described the occasion as a celebration of nearly three decades of visionary leadership that has transformed Morocco into one of Africa’s fastest-growing and most stable economies.
He said the Kingdom’s remarkable achievements under King Mohammed VI were not accidental but the result of strategic planning, effective governance, innovation, institutional strength and sustained investment in key sectors of the national economy.
“It is with immense pride and satisfaction that we celebrate the twenty-seventh anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the throne of His glorious ancestors,” Rahmouni declared. “Our achievements are rooted in confidence, determination and a clear vision for the future.”
Three Decades of Transformation
Since assuming the throne in 1999, King Mohammed VI has overseen sweeping political, economic and social reforms that have reshaped Morocco into a leading investment destination in Africa.
Rahmouni emphasized that political stability remains Morocco’s greatest strategic asset at a time when many regions continue to face political uncertainty, conflicts and economic shocks.
He noted that Morocco’s strong institutions, effective governance and national unity have enabled the country to navigate global crises while maintaining steady economic expansion and investor confidence.
“In today’s uncertain world, security, institutional stability and good governance are invaluable assets that continue to drive Morocco’s development,” he said.
Economy Records Strong Growth
The Moroccan diplomat revealed that the Kingdom recorded an estimated 4.9 percent economic growth in 2025, with similar or stronger growth projected for 2026, driven by industrial expansion, agriculture, tourism, renewable energy and manufacturing.
According to his remarks, Morocco has significantly strengthened food and water security through improved rainfall, modern irrigation systems, technological innovation and substantial investments in climate-smart agriculture.
These initiatives have helped reduce vulnerabilities associated with drought while improving agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods.
Africa’s Automotive Powerhouse
Among Morocco’s most notable economic achievements is its emergence as Africa’s largest automobile exporter.
Rahmouni disclosed that Morocco now possesses an annual automobile production capacity approaching one million vehicles, making the Kingdom a major manufacturing hub serving European, African and international markets.
He added that exports from the automotive and aerospace industries now account for more than 40 percent of Morocco’s total exports, surpassing even the country’s traditionally dominant phosphate sector.
Morocco has also entered the elite group of nations producing sophisticated aircraft engines, landing gear systems and advanced aerospace components, while rapidly expanding its electric vehicle battery manufacturing industry.
Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen
The envoy highlighted Morocco’s ambitious clean energy agenda, describing renewable energy as a cornerstone of national energy security and industrial competitiveness.
He pointed to the launch of the Kingdom’s Green Hydrogen Initiative, aimed at positioning Morocco among the world’s leading producers of clean hydrogen while attracting major international investments in carbon-free industries.
The strategy, he noted, complements Morocco’s growing investments in solar, wind and other renewable energy technologies.
Tourism Reaches Historic High
Morocco’s tourism sector also reached a historic milestone in 2025, welcoming nearly 20 million visitors, including members of the Moroccan diaspora.
The achievement further strengthened tourism’s contribution to employment creation, foreign exchange earnings and economic diversification.
Industrial Sovereignty and Innovation
Rahmouni stressed that Morocco continues to prioritize industrial self-sufficiency in response to global supply chain disruptions and growing protectionist policies.
He said domestic industries currently satisfy approximately 80 percent of Morocco’s pharmaceutical and food requirements, while investments in cybersecurity, defense technology and advanced manufacturing are enhancing national resilience and creating new economic opportunities.
The Kingdom is also expanding financial inclusion through greater access to banking services, increased financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), innovation, manufacturing and export-oriented businesses.
Human Development Remains a Priority
Beyond economic achievements, the Moroccan diplomat underscored the Kingdom’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens through universal social protection, infrastructure development and human capital investment.
He said ongoing reforms seek to promote inclusive growth, reduce regional disparities and ensure equitable access to essential social services across the country.
Morocco Expands Global Partnerships
On foreign policy, Rahmouni described Morocco as a respected and reliable international partner that continues to strengthen balanced relationships across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and beyond.
He noted that under King Mohammed VI’s leadership, Morocco has diversified its diplomatic and economic partnerships while actively contributing to regional peace, security and sustainable development.
The Kingdom, he said, remains committed to constructive engagement through the African Union, Economic Community of West African States, the United Nations and other international institutions.
Strengthening Morocco-Liberia Relations
Rahmouni reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Liberia, emphasizing continued cooperation in diplomacy, education, agriculture, infrastructure, investment, capacity building and regional integration.
He said Morocco remains committed to building stronger partnerships with Liberia while promoting African solidarity and mutually beneficial development initiatives.
The envoy concluded by expressing confidence that Morocco’s next phase of development would consolidate previous gains while creating new opportunities for economic prosperity, innovation and inclusive growth.
“As Morocco prepares for a new political and development cycle, our focus remains on building strategic partnerships, strengthening national sovereignty and delivering sustainable prosperity for future generations,” Rahmouni said.
The 27th Throne Day celebration brought together members of Liberia’s government, the diplomatic corps, development partners, business leaders and members of the Moroccan community, reflecting the growing ties between Morocco and Liberia and the Kingdom’s expanding role as one of Africa’s leading economic and diplomatic powers.
