Liberia’s future hangs in the balance, and the key to national survival, according to Youth and Sports Minister Designate Cornelia W. Kruah, lies in empowering the country’s young population.
Speaking at her confirmation, Madam Kruah an Attorney -At-Law painted a stark but hopeful picture: nearly 75 percent of Liberia’s population is under 35, with over 40 percent under 18. “These young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are the heartbeat of our nation today,” she said.
She emphasized that investing in youth is no longer optional, but a governance imperative.
“Neglecting our youth is neglecting Liberia itself,” Madam Kruah warned. “Youth development is not merely a social concern; it is an economic necessity.
The Minister Designate spoke strong that the country’s workforce, innovators, and leaders are being shaped now, and how the government can equip them will determine the stability, productivity, and long-term growth.”
She has called for an urgent, coordinated action across government agencies, the private sector, and development partners to expand access to education, skills training, sports, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
She stressed that strategic investment in youth, is critical to reducing unemployment, addressing social challenges, and fostering national unity.
“Our youth are Liberia’s greatest resource, and the way we nurture them today will define our nation tomorrow,” she ended.
