The Government of Liberia, in partnership with Bea Mountain Mining Corporation, (BMMC) is set to launch the construction of ultra-modern football academies in Bong and Montserrado counties, marking a major boost to sports development and youth empowerment nationwide.
President Joseph Nyuma Boakai announced the initiative during his Third Annual Message to the Liberian people, delivered before the 56th Legislature at the Capitol Building in Monrovia.
In his address, President Boakai underscored the unifying power of sports, describing it as a force that transcends social, political, and cultural divides while strengthening national identity.
“Sports remains one of the strongest tools for unity, peace, and national development,” President Boakai said.
As Chief Patron of Sports in Liberia, the President noted that the planned football academies will play a critical role in strengthening athletic development, nurturing young talent, and expanding employment opportunities.
According to the President, the academies will offer, Professional training facilities for young athletes structured sports education and mentorship programs employment opportunities for coaches, administrators, facility managers, and support staff Clear pathways for Liberian youth to access regional and international football opportunities.
The academies, to be constructed in Bong and Montserrado counties, are expected to meet international standards, positioning Liberia as a potential hub for organized football development in West Africa.
The partnership with Bea Mountain Mining Corporation highlights a growing collaboration between government and the private sector to invest in sports infrastructure, youth development, and community empowerment.
Stakeholders within Liberia’s sports sector have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a visionary step toward building a sustainable sports ecosystem capable of nurturing talent, reducing youth unemployment, and fostering national pride.
Once completed, the football academies are expected to become a cornerstone of Liberia’s long-term sports development strategy, contributing not only to athletic excellence but also to broader socio-economic growth across the country.
