The Chairman of the ruling Unity Party, Rev. Luther Tarpeh, has called for stronger penalties against public officials found guilty of corruption, reaffirming the government’s commitment to accountability and transparency.
Rev. Tarpeh made the statement Friday during an interview on a local radio station in Paynesville.
He stressed that corruption will not be tolerated under the leadership of Joseph Boakai, adding that any official caught engaging in corrupt practices must face prosecution without exception.
“The government remains resolute in its fight against corruption”.
The Unity Party Chairman emphasized that stricter enforcement measures are necessary to deter misconduct within the public sector.
The Chairman who is also serving as Board Chairman of the National Port Authority (NPA), outlined several operational challenges confronting the entity.
He pointed to poor infrastructure and ongoing dredging issues at the Freeport of Monrovia as major concerns affecting port efficiency.
According to him, limited space at the port has forced some vessels to anchor offshore while awaiting clearance to dock.
He has further assured the public that efforts are underway to address the constraints and improve port operations.
The UP Chairman disclosed that the institution is subject to regular audits by national audit agencies and remains open to scrutiny to ensure transparency and accountability.
Accordingly , Rev. Tarpeh has announced plans to begin creating jobs for Liberians starting in 2026.
He indicated that by the midpoint of President Boakai’s third year in office, more employment opportunities are expected to materialize.
Adding that, there are ongoing discussions with concession companies and international partners aimed at expanding job creation and strengthening the national economy.
Rev. Tarpeh have expressed optimism that sustained reforms and partnerships will lead to measurable improvements in governance and economic development.
