The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) finished an eight-day tax education and stakeholder engagement campaign in Grand Cape Mount and Bomi Counties in western Liberia, aimed at increasing awareness and improving taxpayer compliance.

The outreach, organized by the LRA’s Taxpayer Services Division, brought together business owners, ordinary citizens, and key stakeholders to discuss obligations, including small business taxes, withholding tax on rent, income taxes, real property taxes, tax clearance certificates, and business registration procedures.

Covering towns from Lofa Bridge to Kinjor in Grand Cape Mount and from Tubmanburg to Gbah-Jarkeh in Bomi, the campaign was led by James B. Kokulo, LRA Manager for Banking Services. He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to nationwide tax education.

“As a tax authority, it is our job to educate you, the taxpayers, about what to pay, when to pay, and where to pay,” Kokulo told participants during a town hall meeting. He emphasized that paying taxes contributes to national development by supporting education, health, roads, and other critical sectors.

Stakeholders at the sessions welcomed the initiative and called for more frequent tax education exercises. “We want this meeting to happen often, so we can learn more about tax payments. The more we know, the better prepared we are to contribute our fair share to national development,” participants remarked.

The LRA views tax education as a critical tool for boosting domestic revenue mobilization. The Authority states that the initiative is part of broader efforts to increase Liberia’s annual revenue collection to the one-billion-dollar mark.
