In Harare, Zimbabwe, Liberia has emerged as the overall winner of the Regional Intellectual Property (IP) High School Club Competition held on May 29, 2026, at the headquarters of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization, (ARIPO).

Student Lomenie Kollie from the Maretha International School presented Liberia after winning the National Intellectual Property High School Club Competition organized by the Liberia Intellectual Property Office.

The regional contest brought together students and schools from Liberia, Ghana, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia in an intellectual showcase centered on innovation, creativity, intellectual property awareness, and youth empowerment.

According to LIPO, the competition was designed to encourage young Africans to understand the importance of intellectual property in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, culture, and creativity across the continent.

Liberia’s victory marks a major milestone in strengthening intellectual property education among young people and highlights the growing impact of the Intellectual Property High School Club Program being implemented in schools nationwide by the Liberia Intellectual Property Office under the stewardship of Madam Garmai Koiboi.

The achievement also demonstrates the ability of Liberian students to compete successfully on regional and international stages when given the necessary support, mentorship, and opportunities to excel.

The Intellectual Property School Club Project is an initiative of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism through the WIPO Korea Funds-in-Trust program.

The Liberia Intellectual Property Office, (LIPO) congratulated Lomenie Kollie, Maretha International School, participating schools, coaches, organizers, and partner institutions for their dedication to nurturing the next generation of African innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs.

LIPO has described the achievement as another important step in Liberia’s efforts to promote innovation, creativity, and knowledge-based development through intellectual property education and youth empowerment.
