A delegation from Green Cities Incorporated (GCI), Liberia leading waste management Company on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Department of Environmental Science and Climate Change at University of Liberia’s Fendell Campus.
Both institutions held discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration in environmental education, research, and innovation.
The meeting brought together GCI representatives, faculty members, and students to explore opportunities for practical engagement and long-term partnership focused on climate action, sustainability, and youth empowerment in Liberia.
During the discussions, both institutions emphasized the importance of creating internship and hands-on learning opportunities for students pursuing environmental studies.
The proposed collaboration is expected to provide students with practical experience and exposure to real world environmental challenges and solutions.
The engagement also highlighted the need for joint research initiatives and proposal development in areas including climate change adaptation, agroecology, environmental sustainability, and community-based development programs.
Among the key topics discussed were innovative solutions in plastic recycling, biofertilizer production, and biopesticide development, with participants underscoring the importance of promoting environmentally friendly technologies capable of supporting sustainable agriculture and waste management efforts across Liberia.
Additionally, the two institutions discussed plans for workshops, technical training, and other capacity-building initiatives intended to strengthen the skills and knowledge of students, researchers, and environmental practitioners.
Representatives from both GCI and the University of Liberia stressed that stronger collaboration between academia and industry remains critical to addressing Liberia’s growing environmental and climate-related challenges.
Both parties have expressed optimism about building a sustainable partnership that will contribute to research, innovation, and practical environmental solutions benefiting communities across the country.
Green Cities Incorporated has also extended appreciation to the leadership, faculty, and students of the University of Liberia for the warm reception and constructive engagement, reaffirming its commitment to supporting environmental sustainability and youth-led innovation in Liberia and beyond.
