The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) is set to begin construction on its new global headquarters following the demolition of its former party base.
In what is being described as a symbolic fresh start, the CDC has officially announced October 18, 2025, as the date for the groundbreaking ceremony.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, October 6, the chairman of the CDC Global Headquarters Construction Committee, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, revealed that the new headquarters will be located in Congo Town, near the Greater Refuge Church.
Cllr. Koffa disclosed that the project, estimated at US$1.5 million, is expected to be completed within six months of the groundbreaking.
“The new space may not be as expansive as our previous headquarters, but it is strategic, accessible, and will serve the party well,” he stated.
Providing project details and scope he said the new headquarters will feature four levels: Basement, where normal political and other usual activities will take place, the First Floor: Conference room, Second Floor: Offices for executive operations,
Third Floor: Office space for the party’s Standard Bearer and additional conference rooms among others.
He said the construction will be executed by AMHD, an international firm with operations in Liberia, Accra (Ghana), Lebanon, and Dubai.
The firm will collaborate with local contractors to ensure smooth execution and local participation in the project, he added.
Speaking about Broad-Based Support, According to Cllr. Koffa, financial and logistical support for the project has come from a wide range of sources, both local and international.
Providing details breakdown, he said 52% of the support from CDC partisans, 18% from members of the ruling Unity Party, 10% from other opposition groups, 10% from independent people and 10% from anonymous donors respectively.
“This level of support marks a new beginning for the CDC,” Koffa declared.
“Despite the challenges, our supporters both at home and abroad faced with we remain deeply committed to the party’s future”, he re-emphasized.
Speaking further about the Nationwide Expansion Plans, he told reporters that as part of a broader vision, the CDC plans to establish local headquarters in all 15 counties of Liberia.
Cllr. Koffa announced that land has already been secured in Barclayville, Grand Kru County, with plans for a sub-office in Sass Town also underway.
At the same time, The CDC has also scheduled a Thanksgiving Service for October 19, 2025, at the Forky Klon Jlaleh Church, located in the Baptist Seminary community.
The service is intended to mark the new chapter in the party’s history and rally spiritual support for the journey ahead.
“CDC is a party born out of struggle. With God’s help, we will continue to stand firm and resilient, even in the face of adversity,” Koffa said.
When asked about the status of the land for the new headquarters, he clarified that it was purchased by the CDC and is fully owned by the party.
