The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) has announced a major initiative to
modernize the country’s airport infrastructure and enhance the resilience of
power supply systems. The LAA is calling for strong collaboration among
stakeholders to revitalize Liberia’s aviation sector.
The disclosure was made by Jonathan Enders, Deputy Managing Director for
Technical Services at the LAA, during an aviation awareness event hosted by the
Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the
Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
Enders highlighted that the modernization plan will involve upgrading
terminal facilities, improving runway conditions, integrating advanced
technologies to streamline airport services, enhancing firefighting equipment,
and securing stable power supply systems.
“The LAA is focused on enhancing regional air travel. To achieve this,
we are undertaking a comprehensive modernization of our airport infrastructure.
It’s time to invest in the future of Liberia’s aviation industry. Stakeholder
collaboration is absolutely essential,” Enders emphasized.
Representing the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Chris Najomo
commended the efforts of stakeholders within Liberia’s aviation sector. He
reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to partnering with the LCAA to improve air
travel across the continent.
In his remarks, Transport Minister Sirleaf Tylor revealed that he has
submitted a proposal to President Joseph Boakai to declare aviation a national
emergency. He said this move is aimed at rallying all relevant actors to
support the industry’s development.
The event was also attended by several dignitaries, including Hon. Mamaka
Bility, Minister of State Without Portfolio; Hon. Julius Dennis, Director
General of the LCAA; Hon. Masayeroh Barrie, Director General of the Sierra
Leone Aviation Authority; Hon. Jailza S. Rodriguez, Executive Director of
BAGASOO; and Ambassador Beng Augustine Gang, Cameroon’s Ambassador to Liberia
and Doyen of the Diplomatic Corps.
Held under the theme “Connecting Liberia: The Power of Aviation,”
the event sought to raise awareness about the crucial role of aviation in
national development, while promoting a culture of safety, innovation, and
stakeholder engagement in the industry.
