The Governance Commission (GC), through its Civic Engagement, National Identity and Visioning (CENIV) mandate area, is strengthening efforts to expand visibility and secure strategic partnerships with foreign missions operating in Liberia.
As part of this drive, the Commission recently held a high-level meeting with officials of the Embassy of Ireland near Monrovia to explore areas of collaboration, particularly under the CENIV mandate, and to solicit potential financial support for key national initiatives.
Speaking during the engagement, the Commissioner with oversight responsibility for Civic Engagement at the Governance Commission, Mrs. Cytirus K. Kerbay, emphasized that deepening partnerships with foreign governments and development institutions is critical to advancing inclusive governance in Liberia.
She highlighted the Commission’s ongoing engagements with civil society organizations (CSOs) and provided updates on the Liberia National History Project (LNHP), describing it as a flagship national initiative that requires strategic support to achieve its objectives.
Mrs. Kerbay noted that the LNHP is central to strengthening national identity, promoting civic awareness, and preserving Liberia’s historical narrative for future generations.
The Embassy of Ireland has expressed interest in providing direct support to the Liberia National History Project through the Africa Strategic Innovation Fund, subject to further consultations and the development of a formal proposal.
The meeting, described as the first of its kind since efforts to revitalize the Liberia National History Project began, also aimed to reinforce the Governance Commission’s institutional values, deepen collaboration with the Irish Embassy, and explore joint civic education initiatives in partnership with civil society organizations.
According to the Governance Commission, follow-up engagements are already underway to identify priority areas of collaboration and to bring relevant stakeholders on board in advancing joint programs and funding opportunities in support of the LNHP and broader civic engagement goals.
