The Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) has announced a major intervention aimed at improving safety and enhancing the learning environment at the University of Liberia (UL) through a partnership with Tarhini Construction Company.
The initiative, which forms part of RREA’s corporate social responsibility program, focuses on strengthening campus security through renewable energy solutions.
On Thursday, November 20, 2025, the agency delivered 20 modern solar streetlights to the University of Liberia, marking a significant step toward improving visibility and safety in key areas of the campus.
According to RREA, the solar streetlights are designed with high durability and sustainability features suitable for long-term outdoor use. The agency further disclosed plans to supply an additional five solar streetlights along with installation poles in the coming days.
RREA’s technical team is expected to begin installation immediately, with the full deployment scheduled to be completed within two weeks. The lights will be installed at strategic points to ensure safer passage for students and staff during evening hours.
“This partnership reflects RREA’s dedication not only to renewable energy but also to the development of our communities and educational institutions,” said Samuel Bocay Nagbe, Jr., Executive Director of RREA.
“We believe that by enhancing the physical environment of the University of Liberia, we are contributing to the overall safety and academic success of the students.”
RREA emphasized its commitment to delivering quality and durable products to communities and public institutions.
The project, the agency noted, also demonstrates the practical benefits of renewable energy solutions in urban settings.
The donation and installation of the solar streetlights are being funded through support from the World Bank Group, the African Development Bank, and other development partners.
