The European Union (EU)-funded Light Up South East (LUSE) Programme has reached another key milestone in its drive to expand access to reliable electricity in Liberia, with low-voltage (LV) network installation now underway in the Korean Farm Community in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

Accordingly, the project teams resumed field operations after a brief interruption caused by heavy rainfall and have successfully begun stringing low-voltage distribution lines.

The work marks a significant phase of the electrification project, bringing the community closer to receiving stable and affordable electricity.

The low-voltage distribution network when completed will safely deliver electricity from the newly constructed power infrastructure directly to homes, schools, healthcare facilities, and businesses throughout the Korean Farm Community and neighboring areas.

The initiative is funded by the European Union under its flagship Light Up South East Programme, which seeks to expand electricity access across southeastern Liberia by strengthening energy infrastructure and improving the living conditions of thousands of Liberians.

The programme is being implemented by the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) in partnership with the National Authorising Office (NAO), with technical support from both international and local partners.

The progress made in Buchanan reflects the European Union’s continued commitment to supporting Liberia’s sustainable development agenda through investments in climate-resilient infrastructure and expanded energy access.

The availability of reliable electricity is expected to boost economic activity by supporting local businesses, improving educational opportunities, enhancing healthcare services, and creating employment and investment prospects in communities that have long lacked dependable power.

The Korean Farm Community is among several beneficiary areas under the ongoing expansion of the electricity distribution network.

The project aims not only to install infrastructure but also to ensure safe and efficient connections capable of meeting growing energy demands.

As work continues, the European Union has reassured its commitment to partnering with the Government of Liberia to reduce energy poverty, promote inclusive development, and accelerate the country’s long-term economic transformation.
