In a major boost to his campaign for a seat on the Executive Committee of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Senator Momo Cyrus has received a sweeping endorsement from football stakeholders across Lofa County, signaling strong regional backing ahead of the federation’s highly anticipated May 15, 2026 elections.
The endorsement was formally announced Wednesday during a well-attended gathering in Voinjama City, where club owners, football administrators, youth coaches, women’s football representatives, and community sports leaders declared their united support for Senator Cyrus.
Observers say the endorsement could significantly strengthen Cyrus’s bid as the race intensifies for one of the 15 available seats on the LFA Executive Committee, with 29 applicants reportedly in contention.
Lofa Football Community Backs “A Proven Builder”
Reading the official statement on behalf of the endorsement committee was Ora Siakor, President of Lofa Angels Female Club and Secretary of the organizing committee.
She described Senator Cyrus as a “transformational sports leader” whose personal investments and consistent support have helped sustain football development in one of Liberia’s most football-passionate counties.
Stakeholders highlighted that Senator Cyrus has played a key role in keeping football active and competitive across Lofa, particularly through direct assistance to:
Local football clubs
Three LFA subcommittees in the county
Youth development initiatives
Women’s football teams
County-wide sports infrastructure and logistics programs
They noted that over the past nine years, his contributions have helped strengthen grassroots football and create opportunities for young athletes.
A Strong Football Legacy in Lofa County
Senator Cyrus is widely recognized not only as a politician, but also as one of Liberia’s most visible football patrons.
He serves as Chief Executive Officer of Wologisi FC, a club based in Lofa County currently competing in the LFA First Division League, Liberia’s top-flight football competition.
Under his leadership, Wologisi FC achieved promotion from the Second Division League after winning the championship an accomplishment that placed Lofa football on the national map.
Sports analysts say the rise of Wologisi FC reflects growing decentralization in Liberian football, where clubs outside Monrovia are increasingly challenging traditional powerhouses.
County Meet Dominance Under His Watch
Supporters also praised Senator Cyrus’s record as former Chairman of the Lofa County Sports Steering Committee, during which the county enjoyed unprecedented success in the National County Sports Meet, Liberia’s largest domestic sporting event.
During his tenure, Lofa County captured five championship titles, making it one of the most successful counties in recent tournament history.
The National County Sports Meet, often described as Liberia’s version of a national sports festival, has historically served as a pipeline for talent discovery, national unity, and regional pride.
Why the LFA Elections Matter
The upcoming Liberia Football Association elections are expected to shape the future direction of the sport in Liberia, where football remains the country’s most popular game.
The LFA Executive Committee is responsible for:
Football governance and policy
League development
Youth football expansion
Women’s football promotion
Refereeing standards
Infrastructure growth
International representation with FIFA and CAF
With increasing demand for transparency, professionalism, and grassroots investment, many stakeholders say candidates with proven records outside Monrovia could attract broader support.
Growing Reputation Beyond Lofa
Though rooted in Lofa County, Senator Cyrus has also been credited with supporting football programs and individual players in Montserrado County, Liberia’s most populous county and home to many of the nation’s top clubs.
His supporters argue that this national footprint, combined with his experience in administration and development, makes him a strong candidate for the Executive Committee.
Political Influence Meets Sports Development
Liberia has historically seen strong links between politics and football patronage, with lawmakers, business leaders, and public officials often sponsoring teams and youth tournaments.
Analysts note that Senator Cyrus’s campaign may appeal to delegates seeking leaders who can mobilize resources, attract partnerships, and strengthen county football structures.
Countdown to May 15
With less than a month before voting day, endorsements such as the one from Lofa County could prove decisive.
As delegates prepare to cast ballots, the backing of an entire football county sends a clear message: Senator Momo Cyrus enters the race with strong momentum, grassroots credibility, and a record of visible impact.
Whether that support translates into victory on May 15 now remains one of the key storylines in Liberian football politics.
