The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested local businesswoman Sarah Gee on charges of illegal possession of marijuana, with the confiscated drugs valued at over 25,000 Liberian dollars.

The arrest occurred over the weekend in Gbeapo Kanweaken, the bustling commercial center located approximately 20 kilometers from the county capital of Fish-Town.

Authorities acted on a tip-off received during a routine patrol by the LDEA’s River Gee detachment, leading them to the business center where the suspected illegal activity was taking place.

At the time of her arrest, the 35-year-old Sarah Gee was reportedly found in possession of multiple wraps of marijuana, raising concerns about drug trafficking in the area.

Local residents had alerted the LDEA, prompting a targeted stop-and-search operation that ultimately led to the seizure of the illegal substances.

Richard N. Nangoe, the LDEA Commander for River Gee County, praised the agency’s efforts, stating, “We are committed to combating drug trafficking and ensuring that individuals like Sarah Gee are held accountable under the law. Our operations are driven by community intelligence, reflecting our determination to maintain public safety.”

Following her arrest, Sarah Gee was swiftly transported to the Kanweaken Magisterial Court where she will face prosecution.

The authorities have emphasized the importance of continued vigilance and community involvement in the fight against drug-related crimes, noting that cooperation from residents plays a crucial role in their ongoing efforts.

A week ago, similar arrest was made with a local businesswoman and drugs suspect Esther Nyenpan in Chedepo Jarkaken with 66 wrapped of marijuana and number of cartridges as she was immediately transfered to the Kelipo Kanweaken Magistraterial Court for prosecution.

In light of this incident, the LDEA has reiterated its commitment to prioritizing community protection and maintaining law enforcement integrity as part of its broader struggle against drug abuse and trafficking in Liberia.

County leaders and community advocates are urged to join the LDEA in fostering a drug-free environment as part of an initiative to curb the growing threats posed by illegal narcotics in River Gee County.
