The Liberia Chess Federation’s 8th General Assembly was suspended over the weekend due to a failure to meet the required quorum. Out of the 54 expected members and delegates, only 16 were present at the Federation’s headquarters in Sinkor.

According to the Federation’s constitution, a quorum of two-thirds of the members is necessary for the General Assembly to proceed and for any decisions to be valid.

The low turnout rendered the assembly inquorate, forcing its postponement.A new date for the assembly is yet to be announced.

The postponement has sparked disappointment among stakeholders and raised concerns about the Federation’s internal cohesion and ability to manage its affairs effectively.

Speaking at the aborted session, Liberia Chess Federation President Thomas Karyah expressed his frustration over the absence of several executive members and club delegates.

He described their actions as “unacceptable” and said they undermined the growth and development of the Federation.”

Also addressing attendees, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Andy Quamie urged members to engage in peaceful dialogue to resolve internal differences.

He expressed disappointment that some members chose to abstain from the Assembly rather than participate constructively.
