Former Liberian President and political leader of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), George Manneh Weah, on Saturday broke ground for the construction of a new party headquarters in Congo Town, signaling what he described as a “new chapter” in the CDC’s journey toward political and infrastructural renewal.

Speaking before a crowd of party supporters, members of the CDC National Executive Committee, lawmakers, clergy, and political allies, Weah reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s growth and resilience, promising that the new headquarters would be completed in record time.

“This is my promise and my gift to you,” Weah said. “Let us all come together and bridge the divide. We must break ground, rebuild, and be hopeful.”

Weah expressed gratitude to the CDC Headquarters Construction Committee and the party’s National Executive Committee for their leadership in launching the project.

He also singled out his wife, former First Lady Clar Marie Weah, revered by supporters as the “Mother of the Blue Revolution”—for her continued support to the CDC.

Appreciation was extended to the 55th National Legislature, the CDC Legislative Caucus, party members in the diaspora, religious leaders, and officials of other political parties who attended the event.

The former President emphasized that the essence of the CDC lies not in its physical structures but in the dedication of its members.

“You can break the bricks; you can break the walls,” he said, “but we remain standing, steadfast in our love and commitment to the ideals of our dear institution. The party is supreme; the CDC is supreme”, he re-emphasized.

Weah also introduced Professor Nidan L. Hage as the lead contractor on the project and lauded the construction team’s commitment to delivering the building on schedule.

The groundbreaking ceremony was not without political overtones.

Weah launched a sharp critique of the ruling Unity Party-led government, accusing it of undermining the rule of law and failing the Liberian people.

“Despite the evil and constant disregard and abuse of the rule of law by the Unity Party government, the vast majority of Liberians have shown their empathy, love, and support to us,” he said.

Weah positioned the CDC as a party of builders, contrasting it with what he described as a destructive governance style under the current administration.

“They break, we build. We lead, they follow,” he declared.

The CDC’s political leader urged CDC members and supporters to remain committed and resilient.

“Let us work hard because the people of Liberia depend on us to deliver them from the claws of these charlatans and mountebanks,” he said.
