Former Director General of the National Commission on Higher Education Dr. Michael P. Slawon has warned strongly against politicizing Liberia’s Educational Sector.

” Politicians please leave education matters with educators because politicizing education would not help improve the sector”, he re-emphasized.

The Liberian educator maintained that with more support including depolicizing of the sector, Liberia’s education system, he is certain can get better.

Speaking further, Dr. Slawon at the same time warned students against abandoning classes to seek financial assistance for exams.

He advised them to follow the proper channels through their student leaderships.

Dr. Slawon who has also been involved in the establishment of community colleges across Liberia was one of proponents of increasing student enrollment in tertiary education nationwide.

Helping to contribute more to the sector, Dr. Slawon served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Blue Crest University College, where he highlighted the institution’s impact on Liberia’s educational system.

In the wake of recognizing the global advancement of technology and its role in commerce, the Former Director General of the National Commission on Higher Education encouraged Liberian students to pursue higher education in Information Technology.

According to him said move will greatly help the sector and will enable creative Liberians get self employment including being marketable in the larger society.

Dr. Michael P. Slawon, a Liberian educator, former Director General of the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) in Liberia and an expert in the sector sees some progress and great potential in Liberian students but emphasized that more still needs to be done to ensure that the sector gets on par with its regional and global counterparts.

Access, Quality and Relevance have been three key issues he emphasized needs to be further strengthen for the betterment of the sector and the people in general.

The former Higher Education Commission Boss has over the period, advocated and continues to advocate for improving the country’s higher education system emphasizing the importance of separating education from political interference.
