National Commission on Disabilities Executive Director Samuel Dean, has challenged persons with disabilities (pwd’s), who have begun benefiting from the government of Liberia economic empowerment initiative, to use the funding provided to them for the intended purpose.

It can be recalled, the government of Liberia through the National Commission on Disabilities (NCD), recently launched a national economic empowerment initiative that aims to support five thousand persons living with disabilities across the Country.

Hundred (pwd’s) from Five Counties, to include Bong, Lofa, Nimba Grand Bassa and Montserrado are benefiting from the pilot phase of the initiative.

National Commission on Disabilities Executive Director Samuel Dean, making remarks during the disbursement Tuesday September 16, 2025, at the headquarters of the Commission, admonished the first batch of beneficiaries to exert all efforts in properly managing the funds to enable the government to do more.

Director Dean noted that the government of Liberia is concerned about the livelihood of persons living with disabilities and is putting in place mechanisms to improve their conditions.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to ensure that they have success stories in their businesses and agricultural activities.
The National Commission on Disabilities Executive Director also cautioned beneficiaries against returning to the streets, noting that actions will be taken against anyone who will receive the grant and be seeing in the streets begging for alms.

Director Dean also disclosed that the beneficiaries will sign a memorandum of understanding with the Commission to ensure that they do not return to the streets in begging for alms.

Prior to the disbursement, the Commission conducted a capacity building training on the basic concepts and skills of small business management and agri-business for beneficiaries in Montserrado County.

The beneficiaries who are divided into two categories, business and agriculture, lauded the government of Liberia for the initiative.
They pledged to use the funding for the intended purpose and ensure that their lives are transformed.
