The Believers Eastern Church has officially launched the Believers Football Academy, an initiative under its “Serving God and Humanity” mission.
The academy aims to empower young people through sports and community development.
The launch, held at the Matadi Don Nico compound, marked the beginning of what the church calls a Community Transformation Project.
The project uses football to shape lives, instill discipline, and create opportunities for children and youth.
According to church leaders, the academy will not only develop football talent but also teach values such as teamwork, responsibility, and respect.
Father Sachin Pakhre, the church’s Country Director, stated, “This academy is more than just about producing players; it’s about raising future leaders who will make positive impacts in society.” He added that the initiative combines “faith, education, and sports to build strong communities.”
The academy will provide structured training, mentorship, and educational support to young athletes.
It will also serve as a platform for talent identification, giving young Liberians a chance to pursue both academic and sporting excellence.
Speaking during the launching ceremony was Kelvin Sebwe, Former Liberian international midfielder and ex-national team coach who praised the academy, calling it an “eye-opener.” He noted that Liberia is home to many talented young players who may not attend school but have immense football potential. “I am glad that the church can come up with this idea through Father, because this is what the children look up to in the slum communities,” Sebwe said.
Sebwe added that the combination of football and education is both appreciated and needed in Liberia.
He expressed optimism that the academy will help identify future national team’s players.
However, he stressed that it is too early for the team to participate in competitions, and the immediate focus will be on player development. Sebwe also warned that “if the kids don’t take their education seriously, they will be dropped from the academy.”
As for the Parents, they expressed gratitude for the initiative.
Emmanuel Toles, speaking on behalf of the families, thanked the church for investing in their children’s future.
“We are happy that our kids will have time to learn about football and also get education,” Toles said. He urged other parents to ensure their children attend practices regularly and maintain clean jerseys.
During the launch ceremony, the first five enrolled children received free jerseys and football boots.
As part of the wider Community Transformation Project, the Believers Eastern Church said it is committed to holistic development, offering sporting programs as well as community outreach, character building, and spiritual growth opportunities.
The church plans to expand the program with two more academies in Doe Community and Lakpazee Community respectively.
The launch drew excitement from both church members and football enthusiasts, with many hoping the academy will become a springboard for young Liberians to achieve their dreams.
The Believers Football Academy is now open to youth from across Monrovia.
The church is calling on parents, guardians, and community leaders to support the initiative and encourage participation.
