Liberia’s Ambassador for Youth and Sports Development, Alieu Kebe, has presented sporting materials to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., the nation’s Chief Patron of Sports, as part of efforts to promote youth empowerment and strengthen Liberia’s sporting culture ahead of the country’s 179th Independence Day celebrations.
The presentation ceremony, marked by a strong display of patriotism and commitment to youth development, saw Ambassador Kebe hand over newly acquired football jerseys, footballs, and other sporting equipment to President Boakai as his personal contribution toward the successful observance of Liberia’s historic independence anniversary.
Ambassador Kebe proudly displayed the sporting materials during the ceremony, emphasizing that sports remain a powerful tool for national unity, youth development, talent discovery, and social transformation.
Speaking during the presentation, Ambassador Kebe expressed appreciation to President Boakai for his continued leadership and support toward advancing Liberia’s youth and sports agenda.
He reaffirmed his commitment, as Liberia’s Ambassador for Youth and Sports Development, to working with stakeholders across the country to create opportunities for young athletes, strengthen grassroots sports programs, and promote the development of Liberia’s abundant sporting talents.
“Sports have the power to inspire, unite, and transform the lives of young people.
My commitment is to continue supporting initiatives that provide opportunities for Liberian youth to discover and develop their talents,” Ambassador Kebe stated.
He added that empowering young people through sports aligns with national development priorities, particularly in a country where the youth population represents a significant portion of the population.
According to national demographic data, young people below the age of 35 make up more than 60 percent of Liberia’s estimated population of over five million, making youth empowerment a critical component of the country’s long-term development strategy.
Receiving the sporting materials, President Joseph Boakai expressed appreciation to Ambassador Kebe for the gesture and encouraged him to continue his efforts in promoting sports development and nurturing young talents across Liberia.
The President, who serves as Liberia’s Chief Patron of Sports, welcomed the contribution as a demonstration of shared responsibility in advancing the country’s sporting ambitions.
With a smile during the presentation, President Boakai encouraged Ambassador Kebe and other stakeholders to continue investing in grassroots sports, noting that the future success of Liberia’s athletics depends on identifying and supporting young talents at an early stage.
Liberia has a rich sporting history, particularly in football, which remains the country’s most popular sport.
The nation has produced internationally recognized athletes, including legendary footballer George Weah, who remains Africa’s only recipient of the FIFA World Player of the Year award.
