The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has sharply criticized the Unity Party–led government for what it describes as misplaced priorities, accusing the administration of focusing on expanding party headquarters while Liberians continue to endure worsening economic and social conditions.

In a statement issued Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the ANC expressed “profound disappointment” over the government’s alleged failure to address the rising cost of living, high unemployment, deteriorating basic services, and persistent infrastructure challenges.

According to the ANC, rather than implementing policies to ease the daily struggles of ordinary citizens, the Unity Party is “channeling resources and political energy into acquiring and expanding its party buildings across the country.”

The opposition party argued that this focus demonstrates a growing disconnect between the government and the hardships facing the population.“

This is not governance, it is self-serving politics at the expense of the ordinary people,” the ANC stated.

The ANC pointed to rising commodity prices, a struggling health sector, and limited job opportunities as indicators of what it calls a failure of economic management under the current administration.

It also criticized what it described as “unchecked allowances, unnecessary overseas trips, inflated contracts, and opaque financial dealings,” claiming these practices have widened the gap between government officials and ordinary citizens.

The statement highlighted growing concerns over water scarcity as the dry season intensifies and the Liberia Electricity Corporation’s recent power rationing due to low supply. “Liberians did not vote for a government that would put party interests above national well-being,” the ANC added.

The ANC urged the Unity Party administration to redirect its attention toward policies that tackle poverty, food insecurity, and unemployment while strengthening essential public services. It emphasized that Liberia needs increased investment in its people, not in political infrastructure aimed at strengthening the ruling party.

Despite the strong accusations, the Unity Party–led government has not yet issued an official response to the ANC’s claims.

The release was signed by ANC National Secretary General Desmond Ujay Nimely, who reaffirmed the party’s commitment to advocating for policies that prioritize the needs of ordinary Liberians.

As the nation continues to face economic pressure, political observers say public expectations for measurable improvement in governance and service delivery remain high.
