The Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA) has elected a new corps of leaders at its 13th National Convention, re-electing Joey Kennedy as National President for a second two-year term.

In his keynote address, Mr. Kennedy called on Liberian media professionals to play a pivotal role in promoting private sector investment as a means to drive sustainable economic growth and national development in Liberia.

Citing the convention’s theme, “Private Sector Investment: A Key to Sustainable Economic Growth and Development in Liberia – The Role of the Media,” Kennedy emphasized the media’s power to shape public discourse, build investor confidence, and foster accountability.

“At ALJA, we believe that private sector investment is not merely a pillar but a catalyst for Liberia’s sustainable growth and development,” he said.

“With the right policies and a conducive business environment, Liberia can harness private enterprise to reduce poverty, combat unemployment, and improve infrastructure.”

The convention, held in Greenbelt City, Maryland, USA, also spotlighted key developmental themes including unlocking Liberia’s tourism potential, harnessing agriculture for sustainability, strengthening public-private partnerships, and advancing the media’s role in transparency and national investment.

Alongside Kennedy, several new leaders were elected and inducted into office:

Volcano Shelton – National Vice President

Success Minor – National Secretary-General

Lisa Willie – National Treasurer

Each executive officer will serve a two-year term.

In addition, Mr. Lincoln Bryant was elected as a permanent member of ALJA’s Board of Directors, serving a three-year term.

The newly elected leadership aims to expand ALJA’s engagement on issues of media freedom, good governance, and economic advocacy, particularly through stronger collaborations with both local and international stakeholders.
