A local development group, the Farley Development Initiative (FDI), has sharply accused Montserrado County District #1 Representative Hon. Rugie Barry of deceiving residents by falsely claiming credit for the rehabilitation of feeder roads currently underway in the district.
According to the FDI Chairman, Abraham Toe, the ongoing road works are part of a nationwide project funded and implemented by the Ministry of Public Works (MPW), not a personal initiative of the lawmaker as she has reportedly claimed. ” The Ministry of Public Works deserves the credit, not politics,” the group declared in a statement Thursday.
“The rehabilitation of feeder roads across Montserrado County is a government-driven project under the national budget, not an intervention from any Representative.”
FDI described Rep. Barry’s public statements as “cheap political propaganda” intended to mislead voters and gain political mileage ahead of the next elections.
Toe the group chairman further recalled that during a district sitting on January 25, 2025, held in Bentol, residents and stakeholders, including chiefs, elders, youth and women leaders, agreed that USD $100,000 from the 2025 National Budget allocated for District #1 should be used for feeder road rehabilitation.
He alleges that despite the availability of funds, no road project was implemented, and the money “vanished without any accountability.”
“It is disgraceful for a lawmaker who failed to use the district’s own development funds for road projects to now parade herself with lies that the ongoing works by the Ministry of Public Works have her involvement,” the statement said.
The group went on to describe the representative’s conduct as “deceptive and self-serving,” accusing her of having a record of dishonesty and manipulation, referencing her alleged role during a recent impasse at the Capitol Building.
FDI commended the Government of Liberia and the Ministry of Public Works for what it called their “action-oriented service,” stressing that the ongoing road rehabilitation is bringing genuine relief and progress to the people of Montserrado County.
“The credit belongs to the Ministry of Public Works and the Government of Liberia, not to political opportunists,” FDI concluded.
