Senator Prince Kermue Moye Sr. of Bong County in a bold step to transform
Liberia’s agricultural sector, has cultivated a sprawling 100-acre plantain
farm in the fertile area of Kollita-Wolah, Jorquelleh District-2.

The initiative underscores the senator’s commitment to reducing food imports
and promoting agricultural self-sufficiency.

During a farm tour on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Senator Moye called on Liberians
especially, government officials to embrace agriculture as a tool for economic
empowerment and national development.

“Venturing into agricultural activities is no longer a choice; it is a
necessity,” he stated, emphasizing the urgent need for Liberia to rely on
locally produced food.

Senator Moye explained that his plantain project is not only a personal
investment but also a community-driven endeavor that aims to create jobs and
reduce dependence on government employment.

He envisions expanding the initiative into agribusiness by establishing a
processing plant to produce plantain-based products for local and regional
markets.

“The future of our economy lies in our ability to harness our land
effectively,” Moye remarked. He urged fellow citizens to invest in large-scale
agriculture, noting that such ventures could collectively transform Liberia’s
economy and reduce unemployment.

The senator also commended President Joseph Boakai Sr.’s administration,
particularly the Ministry of Agriculture, for prioritizing agriculture as a
foundation for national growth. He highlighted the ministry’s support for local
farming corporations, which he said is already yielding positive results across
the country.

Moye pointed to increased interest in lowland farming and called for greater
innovation and investment in agriculture. He believes these efforts can inspire
a broader cultural shift toward farming as a respected and profitable
profession.

“As leaders, we must lead by example,” he added, urging more public
officials to actively engage in agricultural work.

Senator Moye’s initiative represents more than a farming project; it’s a
vision for Liberia’s future. By investing in the land and encouraging others to
do the same, he is championing a movement toward food sovereignty, sustainable
employment, and economic resilience.
