Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Headquarters Construction Project, has confirmed that the groundbreaking ceremony for the party’s new headquarters will proceed as scheduled on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
Speaking to reporters amid public speculation and concerns over alleged unresolved land and payment issues, Cllr. Koffa reassured Liberians that preparations for the landmark event are well underway and on track.
“We are on course. The groundbreaking ceremony will go on as planned,” Cllr. Koffa emphasized.
He acknowledged that discussions had taken place with an individual claiming ownership of a portion of the property in question. However, he dismissed rumors of legal impediments, stating that the writ reportedly issued in the matter had been canceled.
“I believe there are some nefarious individuals attempting to use this situation to distract and disrupt the process. But as of this morning, the individual involved has realized he was pursuing the wrong path, and we are now back on course,” Cllr. Koffa explained.
He also clarified that the CDC had not made any payment, including the widely speculated sum of US$5,000, in relation to the property dispute.
According to him, any negotiations regarding the land will resume after the groundbreaking event.
“We will not take emotional or hasty postures that could derail ongoing negotiations,” he added.
The CDC has intensified publicity efforts ahead of the ceremony, marking a significant moment for the party following the demolition of its former headquarters in Congo Town.
Despite the swirling controversies, the party remains resolute in moving forward with the construction of its new political home.
