Liberia is moving closer to establishing its first modern dairy farm project since the end of the civil war, as a delegation of agricultural and dairy experts from the United States arrives in the country for a weeklong technical and strategic assessment mission.

The delegation, visiting Liberia from May 24–31, 2026, is expected to conduct site inspections, engage government officials, and hold consultations with agricultural stakeholders on plans to launch the ambitious livestock and dairy initiative.

The project is being developed through a partnership involving the Community of Hope Agriculture Project, Breath of Life USA, Agricultural Training Education Center, Abide in the Vine Fellowship, the Armed Forces of Liberia, and Liberia’s Ministry of Agriculture.

Officials familiar with the initiative disclosed that the Liberian government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has already allocated land for the proposed Liberia Dairy Farm project as part of broader efforts to strengthen agriculture, improve food production, and reduce dependence on imported dairy products.

Organizers described the initiative as a major step toward revitalizing Liberia’s underdeveloped livestock sector.

They noted that the project is expected to create employment opportunities, improve food security, stimulate rural economic growth, and support local farmers through modern dairy production systems.

The U.S. delegation is headed by Dr. Benjamin Laudermilch and includes dairy specialists, veterinarians, livestock technicians, agricultural investors, and infrastructure development experts.

During the visit, the experts are expected to assess local farming conditions and evaluate potential implementation sites for the dairy farm.

The team will also hold discussions with government officials, agricultural institutions, private sector representatives, and local farmers on strategies for long-term sustainability and implementation.

According to project officials, the proposed dairy farm will focus on modern livestock management, milk processing, farmer education, and technology transfer aimed at equipping Liberian farmers with international best practices in dairy production.

As part of the initiative, four Liberians have been selected for advanced dairy and livestock management training opportunities in the United States.

The trainees are expected to receive specialized instruction at the Agricultural Training Education Center (AgTEC) before returning to Liberia to support the country’s growing dairy sector.

The delegation also held meetings with officials of the Food and Agriculture Organization and deputy ministers at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Additional consultations are expected with representatives of the Central Agricultural Research Institute and the U.S. Embassy in Liberia. In a symbolic presentation during the visit, Bimba formally introduced members of the delegation to Joseph Boakai and showcased cheese products similar to those expected to be produced locally once the dairy farm becomes operational.

Project organizers say the initiative is intended to serve as a pilot model for future livestock and dairy expansion programs across Liberia.

“This partnership represents a significant step toward transforming Liberia’s agricultural sector and building local capacity in dairy production,” a project representative said.

“The goal is to help Liberia become more self-sufficient while creating jobs and economic opportunities for communities.”

The successful establishment of a modern dairy industry could generate long-term economic benefits for Liberia, including increased local milk production, improved nutrition, expanded agro-processing industries, and stronger support for smallholder farmers.

If fully implemented, the project could mark the beginning of a new era for Liberia’s livestock and dairy industry, which has historically remained underdeveloped despite increasing national demand for dairy products.
