A teenage boy was discovered dead inside a vehicle parked on the premises of
Phebe Hospital in Suakoko District, Bong County, triggering concern and sorrow
across the community.
The grim discovery was made on Monday, May 12, by health petitioners and
reported to the public the following day. The vehicle belongs to Nyanquoi Urey,
a hospital staff member currently in China on official business.
According to hospital administrator Sam Siakor, Urey had left the car parked
within the hospital compound for safekeeping and handed the keys over to his
wife before departing.
Hospital staff routinely use the compound for secure vehicle parking while
away on travel, Siakor explained. However, this incident has raised serious
questions about security at the facility, which is reportedly under 24-hour
surveillance.
Initial reports indicate the deceased male exhibited visible body marks and
bleeding from the lower abdomen, suggesting possible foul play. The body has
since been transported to St. Moses Funeral Home for preservation as the
investigation continues.
“This is a deeply troubling incident,” Siakor stated, urging staff
to remain focused amid the emotional toll. “We are fully cooperating with the
Liberia National Police Bong Detachment to uncover the facts.”
A joint meeting involving hospital authorities, the Liberia National Police,
and Bong County’s administrative leadership is scheduled for 1:00 PM today to
review initial findings and determine next steps.
The identity of the teenager and the exact circumstances surrounding his
death remain unknown. Community members have expressed alarm that such a tragic
event could occur within what is considered a secure environment.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the
investigation unfolds.
