Cllr. Boakai Kanneh, Associate Justice-Designate for the Supreme Court of Liberia has emphasized the need to rewrite the Constitution of Liberia.
Appearing before the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Claims and Petitions on his confirmation hearing, Cllr. Kanneh said the constitution doesn’t meet present day reality, as such, a reform is needed.
“The constitution has been overshadowed by time and i am proposing that we rewrite the constitution particularly article 91,92.”
According to the nominee, rewriting the constitution will provide a clear requirement for verdicts instead of judges working at their own discretion. “Instead of individual making judgement based on personal discretion, we would rewrite the entire constitution and solve all the other matters relating to gender”, among others he said.
Meanwhile, Cllr. Kanneh hearing will determine Senate’s decision to either confirm him or provide a vote of no confidence.
