Transportation disruptions and safety hazards have intensified along the critical route connecting Saturday Town and Dahn Town in Grand Bassa County’s Electoral District #4.
The poor state of the roads have severely hampered movement for residents, traders, and traveler, raising alarm over public safety and economic stability in the region.
The affected roadway, which links several counties including Bong, Nimba, and River Cess, has become increasingly treacherous, especially during the rainy season.
Residents and commuters have voiced their frustrations, describing the conditions as life-threatening and a recurring problem that hampers daily activities.
At the same time, Residents attribute the worsening conditions primarily to a lack of proper drainage infrastructure and inadequate maintenance.
During heavy rains, the roads turn into mud, impassable paths, making travel hazardous for both vehicles and pedestrians.
Moreover, Local traders and travelers have reported damaged goods and delays attributed to the slow and perilous transit.
One traveler lamented, “The road has become a death trap, especially during the rainy season. Many have lost their goods because of the dangerous conditions.”
Explaining further, they reemphasized that the deteriorating roads have also impacted the livelihoods of residents.
Small-scale traders and cyclists are particularly affected, often reducing cargo loads or paying hefty fees—up to L$500—to have their motorbikes carried over damaged sections.
Such measures, residents say, only add to their financial burdens and inconvenience.
In conversation with our correspondent, they used the ocassion to plea with government authorities to intervene promptly.
They emphasize that urgent construction and repair of the roads are necessary to prevent further damage to property.
As the situation continues to worsen, community leaders and commuters are calling on officials to prioritize infrastructure development in the region.
“The current condition of the road is dangerous. We fear that if nothing is done soon, more goods will be damaged,” said a concerned resident. “We need the government to come to our aid and fix these roads before it’s too late.”
As residents and road users continue to endure these hardships, their appeals underscore the urgent need for infrastructural improvements to ensure safer, more reliable transportation in Saturday Town and the surrounding areas.
The community remains hopeful that government action will alleviate the ongoing crisis and restore normalcy to their daily lives.
