The serenity of the Sugarcane Farm Community was shattered Wednesday morning when residents of Sugarcane Farm community in Grand Bassa County woke up in shock and dismay over the discovery of the lifeless body of a young man in an abandoned structure on the outskirts of the neighborhood.

The incident has stirred concern among locals and authorities, with early indications pointing to a possible drug overdose.

The deceased has been identified as Edward Samukai Jr., a local youth known within the community.

Witnesses reported that Samukai had been battling substance abuse over recent years, and his recent behavior had raised alarm among residents.

Neighbors recall seeing him the day before his death, appearing weak and disoriented.

Authorities responded promptly to the scene, where no signs of violence or a struggle were evident.

While the official cause of death has not yet been confirmed, preliminary observations suggest an overdose, consistent with ongoing community concerns about rising drug-related issues.

The tragic event has reignited urgent calls for intervention programs targeting youth substance abuse.

Community leaders and residents are advocating for increased access to rehabilitation services and mental health support, emphasizing that such measures are vital to prevent further tragedies.

The incident follows closely on the heels of another similar tragedy.

It can be recalled on June 25, 2025, the body of 20-year-old Aaron Mensah was found in Gorzohn Community.

Authorities reported no evidence of foul play, attributing his death to natural or accidental causes, although investigations remain ongoing.

As Buchanan continues to mourn these losses, residents are urging proactive steps to address substance abuse and foster a safer environment for all.

The collective hope is that increased awareness and support will help prevent future tragedies of this nature.
