Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana has clarified that the recent pronouncement on the reduction of key commodities on the local market by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai was not done arbitrarily but rather in consultations with key actors.
Addressing a regular Executive mansion press briefing, Madam Fofana told Executive mansion reporters that wholesalers and other direct actors were part of the conversation and were fully involved in the process prior to the Liberian leader’s pronouncement.
” The decision was not imposed on the wholesalers and importers but was based upon consultations from all actors and sectors involved “, she re-emphasized.
She acknowledged that some of the views from the people relative to the price reductions following the pronouncement by President Boakai are legitimate and that shows that the people are following and listening to their leader.
However, she pointed out that the decision was part of initial report from the special Presidential committee headed by Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung which was setup by President Boakai on July 26, 2025.
The President she stated trust the committee and its ongoing work and will ensure that reports from them will be looked at critically.
According to her, President Boakai is concern about the bread and butter issues of the people especially so when there are tarrif exemption on certain commodities, he expects the trigger down effect positively on the lives of the people.
The work by VP Koung’s committee she pointed out is continuing and as they make enrolls, they will provide update to the President for subsequent information to the Liberian people.
“The committee’s work is important and will help address some of the pressing issues affecting the ordinary people “, Madam Fofana reassured the Liberianpeople. .
Providing brief updates on the Friday’s cabinet meeting, The Presidential Press Secretary disclosed that the economic management team of the Country has assured the cabinet of some favorable prospects of the Country’s economy in the coming days.
She said ahead of the budget discussions, there are encouraging indicators that will help a major shift of the current reality with the people directly expected to benefit.
The team comprising the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Central Bank of Liberia, The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Liberia Revenue Authority among others are also concerned about the latest drop in the exchange rate stating that such issue in the coming days will be critically looked out from all angles with the hope of trying to bring it under control.
Madam Fofana said President Boakai remains committed to delivering the necessary goods for the people and will continue to work in their interests despite the current situation which the government is gradually addressing.
