President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has suspended the Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the Liberia Agricultural Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA) following serious of allegations of financial and administrative irregularities.
The suspensions, announced today, Thursday come as the President emphasizes his administration’s commitment to transparency and a “zero-tolerance stance on corruption.”
Mr. Christopher D. Sankolo, Director-General, and Mr. Chea B. Garley, Deputy Director General for Administration and Finance, were both suspended on June 25, 2025, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) is currently investigating the allegations, and President Boakai has additionally requested an audit by the General Auditing Commission (GAC)
The suspended officials have been directed to immediately hand over all institutional properties, assets, and responsibilities.
At the same time Dan Torkamawon Saryee, Sr. has been named Interim Director-General of LACRA, while Adolphus Forkpa will assume the role of Interim Deputy Director General for Administration and Finance.
President Boakai reiterated that all public officials under his administration will be held to the highest standards of integrity and public service, underscoring his commitment to combating corruption within government institutions.
It can be recalled that the LACRA under the direct supervision of Mr. Sonkolo was recently named by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai as one of the top performing entities of government.
The awards which came less than a month also follows President Boakai’s suspension as some critics are now raising credibility issue surrounding the national recognition by the Chief Executive.
They claimed that the yard stick or bench mark used before such recognition is questionable.
