President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has appointed the President of the Liberia National Bar Association Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, as Chairman of the Law Reform Commission.
Cllr. Varmah who replaces Cllr. Boakai Kanneh who is now an Associate Justice at the Supreme Court of has been a strong voice over the period advocating for Law reform across the Country.
Hailed from Western Liberia, Cllr. Varmah contested as representative candidate in District one Gbarpolu County on the ruling party’s ticket but did not win.
He has stood tall for championing the campaign for a stronger , accountable, transparency and more robust judiciary as his colleagues now see him as best suited in said position to now work in effectuating some of his good ideas and visions for the judiciary especially in strengthening and reforming the laws of the Country.
Many lawyers also believe that his appointment is timely and are certain that he he work along with other Commissioners to help make the necessary reforms of critical laws in the interest of the Liberian people.
At the same time, President Boakai also appointed Cllr. Massa Jallabah as Commissioner of the Law Reform Commission.
Additionally and in a drive to help strengthen all aspects of the governance structures, the Liberian leader also appointed Matthew Ballah Kollie, Jr. – Commissioner, at the Governance Commission at National Integrity System.
As for Local Government especially in Margibi County, President Boakai appointed Rev. John W. Smith, City Mayor, Marshall City
While scores of relevant government ministries and agencies were appointed at National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA) Board to include; Ministry of Agriculture, Chair, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Co-chair and members include; Ministry of Education, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Services Agency, Liberia Chamber of Commerce, Liberia Marketing Association, and National Food Assistance Agency, Executive Director, Secretary to the Board.
President Boakai stated that these nominations are intended to support the Government’s goals of effective governance, accountability, and community-focused leadership.
He indicated his expectation that the appointees will perform their responsibilities with integrity, loyalty, and dedication, working towards improving public institutions and providing results for Liberia.
The President also congratulated the nominees and asked the Senate to consider their confirmation following the end of its constituency break.
Meanwhile, those appointments, where applicable, are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
