The Office of the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia and the Office of the United Nations Higher Commissioner for Human Rights have opened a three day national Conference on the collaboration and complementarity accountability between integrity institutions within the Country.
The focus among other things is geared towards accountability for corruption and human rights violation issues in Liberia.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon said the initiative demand action that alien with accountability and justice with anti corruption and justice issues across the Country.
He stressed the critical role of increase legislative support to the operations of the courts in Liberia.
At the same time, Speaker Koon disclosed plans in the making by the Legislature to ensure that Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force gets its legal and autonomous status soon.
Also speaking at the program was Justice Minister Osward Tweh who recommend a former framework for regular intervention agency meeting.
The move is to assist in coordinating efforts, share resources and expertise as well as best practices to help dismantle corruption and reinforces the fight against human rights violations across the Country.
At the same time, the Chair of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights, Cllr. Dempster Brown attributed Liberia’s past crisis to corruption and the abuse of rule of law.
He calls for bold legal and tangible actions in a drive to help fight corruption holistically.
According to him, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai recent stance in the fight against corruption and transparency in public space was welcoming.
Meanwhile, The well attended gathering also witnessed donor partners and members of the diplomatic community pledging their support and commitment to the process.
