The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Mines and Energy, has announced plans to reopen County Service Centers nationwide. This move aims to ease the burden on citizens who currently must travel long distances to the Ministry’s headquarters in Monrovia to access mining and energy-related services.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) press briefing on Thursday, Deputy Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, highlighted that the decentralization initiative is a strategic effort to combat illegal mining and improve service delivery at the local level.

According to Minister Sando, the reactivation of the centers will also support revenue generation, enhance employment opportunities, and strengthen the Ministry’s presence across the country. He described the initiative as a flagship program of the current Senior Management Team, led by Minister Wilmot J. Paye.

He further noted that the Ministry will work closely with key partners to ensure the effective and sustainable implementation of the initiative. “This effort is essential not only to improve governance in the mining sector but also to promote economic development and stability,” Minister Sando emphasized.

The reactivated service centers will serve as vital access points for licensing, permits, and other essential services, making the Ministry’s work more responsive and citizen-centered.
