The Publisher of FrontPage Africa Newspaper, Rodney Sieh, has described the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefings as weak and a mistake, saying they undermine the communication efforts of other government ministries and agencies.

Speaking on a local radio station in Monrovia on Monday, December 22, 2025, Sieh emphasized the need for individual ministries and agencies to utilize their own media teams to educate and inform the Liberian public about their work, rather than relying on MICAT’s Tuesday and Thursday press briefings.

“These regular briefings have undermined the workforce of ministries’ communication teams,” Sieh said. “Each ministry and agency must hold its own press conferences and programs to ensure visibility.”

He also clarified FrontPage Africa’s grading of government institutions, stating that the paper assesses ministries and agencies based on public visibility and how effectively they communicate progress and shortcomings.

Sieh urged institutions receiving low grades not to view them as academic failures, but as a call to make their work more visible to Liberians.

Sieh further called on President Joseph Boakai to discourage government officials from conducting continuous welcome ceremonies for every foreign trip and to surround himself with advisors who will prevent repetitive mistakes, dismissing those he described as sycophants.

In the same interview, Sieh commended the work of Mohammad Sheriff, Managing Director of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), calling him one of the best appointments by President Boakai.

He also praised Foreign Minister Madam Sara B. Nyanti, stressing that key government positions should be filled based on technical expertise and competency.
