The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), in collaboration with the Western Region Journalists Association (WReJA), has concluded a two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing journalists’ ability to report on taxation and revenue issues.
The training took place from June 20–21, 2025, in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, and brought together over twenty media professionals from Bomi, Gbarpolu, and Grand Cape Mount Counties.
Held under the theme “Enhancing Tax Awareness and Public Engagement,” the workshop focused on strengthening media engagement in promoting domestic revenue mobilization, especially in underserved regions.
LRA’s Manager for Communication, Media, and Public Affairs, D. Kaihenneh Sengbeh, stressed the importance of empowering journalists to serve as tax ambassadors.
He noted that the training aligns with the LRA Communication Division’s 2025 strategy, which prioritizes media collaboration as a crucial element of tax education and public outreach.
The workshop was described as a milestone, being the Authority’s first media-focused initiative centered on customer taxation.
Sengbeh emphasized the need for well-informed journalism to help the public understand the benefits and importance of taxation in national development, particularly as the country increasingly relies on domestic resource mobilization.
WReJA Chairperson Meloshe Roberts acknowledged the LRA’s consistent support to the regional media and praised the partnership for contributing to the advancement of professional journalism.
He referenced the LRA’s role in supporting WReJA’s second general assembly held in Gbarpolu County in 2024.
Participants described the training as eye-opening, citing the valuable insights and tools they gained for improving their coverage of tax issues and financial accountability.
Meanwhile, The workshop concluded with the certification of all attendees, marking a key step in advancing tax education and civic engagement in Liberia’s western region.
