The Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) has announced an immediate suspension of all beauty pageants and related activities nationwide, citing the need to protect the country’s image and ensure adherence to international standards.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, January 29, 2026, the LNTA said that with immediate effect, no individual will be permitted to represent Liberia as a queen, titleholder, or cultural ambassador on any national or international platform without prior written approval from the Authority and full compliance with internationally recognized standards governing pageantry, branding, safeguarding, and ethical conduct.
The Authority also disclosed that it has halted the issuance of permits to all pageant organizers, institutions, and organizations, noting that the suspension will remain in force until a standardized approval and compliance framework is developed and enforced.
According to the LNTA, the decision is intended to ensure credibility, strengthen governance within the pageantry space, and align Liberia’s cultural and international representation with global best practices.
“Future approvals will be contingent upon clear governance structures, transparent selection processes, participant welfare safeguards, brand alignment, and adherence to international protocols,” the statement noted.
The LNTA emphasized that the move is not intended to stifle cultural expression or creative industries, but rather to promote responsible representation and safeguard the integrity of Liberia’s national branding efforts.
The Authority further disclosed that detailed guidelines outlining approval requirements and compliance procedures will be published in due course. In the meantime, all organizers, promoters, and affiliated stakeholders have been urged to take note of the directive and comply accordingly.
The Liberia National Tourism Authority is the government institution mandated to promote tourism, culture, and Liberia’s image locally and internationally.
