In a strategic move to boost investment and trade, the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority (LSEZA) and the Liberia Airports Authority (LAA) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to establish the country’s first airport-based Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Roberts International Airport (RIA).

The agreement, signed on Thursday in Margibi County, designates 200 acres of land at RIA for the SEZ, which is expected to drive growth in light manufacturing, logistics, and aviation services. The project aims to attract both domestic and international investors under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Officials say the initiative is poised to generate employment, enhance exports, and strengthen Liberia’s economic competitiveness.

“This aligns directly with President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST Agenda and signals Liberia’s readiness to emerge as a regional hub for trade and investment,” representatives from both agencies said.
