In a significant step to revitalizing Liberia’s agricultural sector, the World Foundation International Multi-Purpose Agriculture Cooperative was officially launched in Monrovia on Friday under the bold theme “Feed the Nation: Rescue Farmers.”
The event drew farmers from across the country, government officials, and key stakeholders committed to transforming agriculture.
Deputy Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of State, Anthony Kesselley, formally launched the cooperative on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, describing agriculture as a critical pillar for national development and food security.
“President Boakai is committed to empowering our farmers,” Kesselley said. “This government has laid out a clear roadmap to boost productivity, strengthen policy support, and enhance the livelihoods of those who feed our nation.”
Dr. John Wulu, Board Chairman of the cooperative, stressed the urgent need for transformation in Liberia’s agricultural sector.
He highlighted persistent challenges, including limited access to modern farming tools, financing, technical training, and reliable markets, noting that addressing these gaps is critical to national growth.
The cooperative’s Chief Executive Officer underscored the institution’s commitment to providing farmers with innovative programs, capacity-building initiatives, and strategic partnerships with both local and international stakeholders.
“Our mission is clear,” the CEO said. “We aim to increase food production, improve farmers’ incomes, and drive Liberia’s economic growth from the ground up.”
The launch of the World Foundation International Multi-Purpose Agriculture Cooperative marks a decisive step toward food self-sufficiency, farmer empowerment, and sustainable development in Liberia.
