The Liberia Football Association (LFA) and the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) have entered into a landmark partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) committing US$250,000 to the development of football in Liberia and the operational activities of the national team, the Lone Star.
The one-year agreement, renewable upon review, was formally signed on Tuesday, February 10, at LiMA’s headquarters in Congo Town.
The funding forms part of LiMA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at supporting youth development and national pride through sports.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, LiMA Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., described the partnership as a strategic investment beyond financial support.
“This investment of US$250,000 into our national football is a direct commitment to unlocking the potential of our young people,” Cllr. Lighe said.
“Through this partnership with the LFA, we are fostering football development while creating opportunities for empowerment, discipline, and national pride. Our goal is to ensure that the success of Liberia’s maritime program translates into real opportunities for young Liberians, both on and off the pitch.”
LFA President Mustapha Raji expressed appreciation to LiMA, describing the agreement as historic and unprecedented for a government institution.
Raji noted that the funds will support football development programs at the LFA, with a strong focus on nurturing young boys and girls across the country.
He also highlighted progress in Liberia’s football economy, revealing that US$480,000 was generated in 2025 from 22 outgoing player transfers involving local clubs.
“We assure the public and our partners that this US$250,000 will be managed transparently and accountably,” Raji said. “This support will help our football talent reach its highest potential.”
