The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested 51-year-old businesswoman Helena Allison in Fish-Town, River Gee County, after she was allegedly found in possession of a large quantity of 3 pills of Tramadol and over 100 rounds of live ammunition.
The arrest was carried out on Thursday, September 18, 2025, following a tip-off from community members.
According to the LDEA River Gee detachment, agents conducted a search operation at Allison’s business premises, where they discovered 3 pills of Tramadol tablets valued at approximately LD$36,300 along with 116 rounds of single-barrel ammunition.
The ammunition, considered illegal under Liberian law without proper licensing, was immediately turned over to the Liberia National Police (LNP) River Gee detachment for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Allison was placed under investigation and detention and is expected to be transferred swiftly to the Fish-Town Magisterial Court for prosecution.
Speaking to reporters, Special Agent Richard N. Nangoe, LDEA Commander for River Gee County, stressed that the arrest demonstrates the agency’s ongoing commitment to curbing drug trafficking and related crimes in the county.
“The LDEA remains firm in its mandate to rid our communities of dangerous substances and weapons that threaten peace and security. No individual is above the law, and those involved in drug trafficking and illegal arms possession will face justice,” Nangoe asserted.
The arrest has sparked discussions among residents, many of whom have expressed appreciation to the LDEA for what they describe as “a timely intervention” in protecting the community from the harmful impact of drugs and illegal weapons.
The authorities responsible say investigations are ongoing to determine whether Allison acted alone or is linked to a larger drug and arms supply network operating in the southeast.
At the same time, The incident underscores the growing challenge of illicit drug use and arms proliferation in Liberia, particularly in border counties like River Gee.
Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have repeatedly appealed to community members to report suspicious activities that could undermine public safety.
