Employees of the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) have received a major transportation boost following the provision of a National Transit Authority (NTA) bus aimed at reducing the high cost of commuting to work.

The Managing Director of the LAA, Ernest R. Hughes, made the disclosure on Monday during a presentation ceremony held at the Authority’s head office at Roberts International Airport (RIA).

He explained that the decision to acquire the NTA bus was reached in consultation with members of the LAA Board of Directors.

According to Director Hughes, many employees have faced persistent challenges in commuting to work, which has affected their ability to perform their duties efficiently.

He noted that the introduction of the bus will significantly ease the transportation burden faced by staff members.

“This initiative is intended to support our employees and improve their working conditions,” Hughes said, adding that staff welfare remains a priority of his administration.

Director Hughes further disclosed that the agreement between the Liberia Airport Authority and the National Transit Authority provides for daily bus service for LAA employees.

Under the arrangement, the NTA will supply both drivers and fuel, while the LAA will contribute US$3,000 monthly to the revenue of the NTA.

The presentation of the bus brought together senior officials and staff of the Liberia Airport Authority, marking what many described as a significant step toward improving employee welfare.

Beyond transportation, the LAA Managing Director revealed that his administration is also focusing on strengthening security and customer care services at the Authority.

He emphasized the need for capacity-building and training programs to enhance staff professionalism and service delivery.

Meanwhile, LAA employees have expressed excitement and appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.

They noted that transportation challenges have long affected workers, especially those commuting from distant communities.

Employees stated that the availability of the NTA bus will not only reduce transportation costs but also improve punctuality and morale.

They commended the LAA Board and management for listening to their concerns and responding positively to their welfare needs.
