The Samuel Alfred Ross Port of Greenville, with support from the National Port Authority (NPA), turned Liberia’s 178th Independence Day into a celebration of service and unity by hosting a vibrant community event in Seebeh Community on Saturday, July 26.
Held at the Sweet Mother Sports Pitch, the event brought together residents of Seebeh, Teah Town, and Dioh Town for a full day of activities, including an Olympic-style football tournament, music, food, and charitable donations.
Teah Town emerged as champions of the football tournament after a thrilling final match, while Dioh Town secured second place by defeating the Port Dock Workers Union.
The tournament fostered community spirit and friendly competition.
Following the games, Port Director Cllr. Sylvia A. Tarley led the distribution of freshly prepared meals to residents.
Children were gifted packed book bags, infusing educational support into the day’s celebration.
The port also distributed raw food supplies to the communities, ensuring those unable to attend could enjoy Independence Day meals at home.
In line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, the port donated 30 bundles of 28-gauge aluminum roofing zinc to assist elderly residents and widows with shelter needs.
Fishing nets were also distributed to help strengthen the local fishing industry and support families dependent on fishing for income.
Additionally, the port announced that rehabilitation of damaged hand pumps in the area would begin on Monday, July 28 — a move aimed at restoring clean water access to hundreds of residents.
Community leaders praised the port’s renewed commitment to meaningful engagement.“This celebration went beyond talk; it brought action,” said one local leader. “We feel seen, supported, and part of the national journey.
”As Liberia celebrated 178 years of independence, the Samuel Alfred Ross Port of Greenville demonstrated that national pride shines brightest when paired with compassion and service.
