The United Liberia Inland Church Academy (ULICA), once regarded as a beacon of hope and academic excellence in Grand Bassa County, has fallen into disrepair and ceased operations following recent directives from the Ministry of Education.

Located on the Gaypeter Mission in Compound #3, Wee Statutory District, ULICA was operated by the United Liberia Inland Church and served as a faith-based educational institution.

For many years, the school provided elementary and junior high education, earning a reputation for fostering good moral values alongside academic achievement.

After years of successful operation, ULICA was elevated to senior high school status, graduating several cohorts of twelfth graders.

However, recent developments have cast doubt on the school’s future.

According to reports, the Ministry of Education, through the district education officer, ordered the downgrading of ULICA to the Elementary Division before the start of the 2024/2025 academic year.

The decision was reportedly influenced by the school’s failure to meet certain basic requirements mandated for senior high school operation.

As a result of this decision, ULICA was unable to operate as a senior high school during the last academic year.

The downgrade had a significant impact on the school’s reputation and enrollment figures.

Many parents, citing the school’s new elementary status, chose to withdraw their children, further diminishing the institution’s prospects for revival.

As the 2025/2026 academic year approaches, the future of ULICA remains uncertain.

It is unclear whether the school will be able to meet the necessary requirements to resume operations at its previous level or if it will continue to operate only as an elementary school.

Community members and stakeholders are awaiting further clarification from the Ministry of Education regarding the school’s future.

For now, ULICA’s once-promising trajectory appears to be in limbo.
